The Executive Chairperson of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), Cllr. Alexandra K. Zoe, Participated in a Two-Day OHCHR Expert Meeting Held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Convened in accordance with Human Rights Council Resolution 58/7, the meeting focused on supporting governments’ efforts to repatriate funds of illicit origin to advance economic, social, and cultural rights and the right to development.

The high-level meeting brought together experts and representatives from anti-corruption agencies, human rights institutions, the United Nations, African Union bodies, civil society, and other key stakeholders to examine challenges and opportunities in asset recovery, return, and the effective management of repatriated funds.

A key highlight was the experience-sharing session featuring Cllr. Zoe alongside other leading anti-corruption and governance experts. She contributed Liberia’s perspectives and experiences to discussions on promising practices, challenges, and recommendations for strengthening international cooperation in the recovery and return of illicit assets.

Discussions also explored the importance of ensuring that recovered assets are transparently and effectively utilized to advance human rights and sustainable development, particularly for vulnerable communities. Participants examined the impact of corruption-related illicit financial flows on developing and fragile countries, the protection of whistleblowers and civil society, the role of victims, and the use of digital technologies and data to improve transparency and resource allocation.

Cllr. Zoe’s participation underscores Liberia’s continued commitment to international anti-corruption cooperation, asset recovery, accountability, and good governance, while reinforcing the LACC’s role in regional and global conversations aimed at ensuring that recovered illicit resources ultimately contribute to the socio-economic development and well-being of citizens.
