Friday, March 25, 2022: The Executive Chairperson of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) says Liberia should not depend on international partners and the LACC to fight corruption in the country.
Cllr. Edwin Kla Martin said the fight against corruption should involve every Liberian working along with the LACC to curb this deadly endemic.
Cllr. Martin was speaking on Friday, when he launched The Mobile & Web Application on Corruption Reporting Platform, TALKAY, at a local hotel in Monrovia.
The LACC boss noted that he is pleased to launch the application as it is in line with the mandate with the decentralization policy of the LACC that Commission needs to be felt throughout the country.
Cllr. Martin who was recently elected as Vice President of National Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa (NACIWA) Summit held in Abuja, used the occasion to inform the gathering that success stories in some West African countries is due to the fact that the citizens are involved with the reporting instances of corruption to the appropriate authorities.
He therefore called on civil society organizations as well as citizens to download TALKAY and to step up efforts and battle corruption at all levels.
Earlier, in special remarks, Mr. Thabani Mabodoko, Deputy Representative of UNDP noted that the establishment of an online electronic platform that enables the anonymous reporting of corruption cases to the relevant government institutions and the tracking of following actions adds to the much needed innovation to the fight against corruption but should also provide the basis for transparency and accountability in the corruption response.
Explaining TALKAY at the launch, Mr. Harold Aidoo, Executive Director of Integrity Watch said that application TALKAY can be downloaded from Google Play Store and for those without internet, a text message can be sent to 4419.
He noted that all information sent from TALKAY will go directly to the LACC where a monitor will be set up to track reports. Additionally, the LACC will have staff within every county to launch a preliminary investigation once a case is reported.
Mr. Aidoo noted that TALKAY is very easy to use and if the sender wants to remain anonymous, TALKAY has provisions to protect the sender.
