German Embassy Ambassador Dr. Jakob Haselhuber Pays Courtesy Visit to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC)
Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) warmly received the Ambassador from the German Embassy in Liberia. The visit, held at the LACC headquarters, was an opportunity for the Ambassador to familiarize himself with the Commission’s operations and discuss potential avenues for collaboration.
The Ambassador was received by the LACC Executive Chairperson, Cllr. Alexandra Zoe, along with some members of her senior team. During the engagement, the Ambassador expressed the German Embassy’s interest in understanding the workings of the LACC and exploring how they might support the Commission’s initiatives to strengthen the fight against corruption in Liberia.
In her remarks, Cllr. Zoe highlighted the critical role the LACC plays in combating corruption, emphasizing some of the pressing challenges that impede its work. Among these, she noted the absence of a specialized anti-corruption court in Liberia as a significant hindrance. “Although the Commission conducts thorough investigations into corruption cases, the lack of a dedicated anti-corruption court means these cases are often delayed or deprioritized, as they must compete for attention in the one criminal court serving the country,” she explained.
The Executive Chairperson further stressed the urgent need for structural and legislative reforms to address this bottleneck and enhance the Commission’s ability to deliver justice swiftly and effectively.
The Ambassador commended the LACC for its unwavering commitment to tackling corruption and expressed optimism about potential partnerships to bolster the Commission’s work. He assured the team of Germany’s readiness to explore support for initiatives aimed at building capacity, improving accountability, and advancing the rule of law in Liberia.
The visit ended with a shared commitment to fostering collaboration in the fight against corruption, which remains a cornerstone of Liberia’s development and good governance agenda.
