Vice President Koung Declares Assets

Monday, February 26, 2024 – Monrovia, Liberia – The Vice President of Liberia, His Excellency Jeremiah K. Koung on Monday, publicly declared his assets at the head office of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission in Congo Town, Monrovia, Liberia.

The Vice President was met upon arrival by the Body of Commissioners (BOC) headed by the Executive Chairperson, Cllr. Alexandra Zoe.

In her welcome remarks, Cllr. Zoe informed the Vice President that the asset declaration exercises for exiting public officials was concluded. She however stated that the Commission will shortly announce the end of the 30-day period allowed for appointed incoming public officials to declare their assets.

Cllr. Zoe assured Vice President Koung that all asset declaration forms received are treated in the strictest confidentiality. The LACC boss said that the Commission is under no obligation to publish any public official asset except when requested by the court. However, she explained that declarants may choose to publish on their own. She also reminded the Vice President who is also the President of the Senate of bills that are expected to come in committee rooms before the Honorable body especially the bill to establish a Corruption Court.

For his part, Vice President Koung said that the President has taken the lead to declare his assets and therefore all public officials must follow his example. The Vice President used the occasion to assure the BOC that he will ensure that the outstanding bills will be brought on the floor for deliberation and passage.

The Vice President is the second high-profile government official to declare his assets publicly. The President of Liberia also declared about two weeks ago. With this public declaration of these officials, it is hoped that other public officials will follow their example to promote transparency and good governance.
