The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) Is Calling Upon Every Public Official and Employees Of Government To Declare His Or Income Assets

Monrovia, June 1, 2021 – The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), says the three year period for the declaration of assets has ended and is calling upon every public official  and employees of government to declare his or her income, assets and liabilities in keeping with the Code of Conduct.

Part 10.1 of the Code of Conduct provides for every public official and employee of government to declare and register personal interests, assets and performance bonds.

The Code provides that the declaration will take place at the end of every three years; on promotion or progression form one level to another; upon transfer to another public office; and upon retirement or resignation.

The LACC reminds public officials and employees of government to start submitting their declaration with members of the Legislature to the Chief Clerk of Secretary of the Senate. The Executive to the LACC in keeping with a MOU signed with the GAC; and the Judiciary with the Clerk of the Supreme Court.

The LACC wants to take note of a banner story in the Tuesday, June 1, 2021 edition of the New Dawn Newspaper under the caption, “GAC slams LACC in report.”

The LACC takes note of an audit beginning the fiscal period of June 2015 and ending June 2018

The LACC acknowledges the different issues raised in the report and will review and investigate the report to establish whether the public trust has been violated to require the appropriate redress.

The Commission notes that the given the transition of leadership at the entity; during the period covered in the report; the Commission expects the cooperation of past leaders of the Commission in assisting with the review of the report.

Finally, the LACC extends thanks and appreciation to the Chairman of the House Standing Committee, Hon. Kannie Wesso for his cooperation in the promotion of key anti-graft legislations like the Witness Protection Act and Granting the LACC Prosecutorial Powers on the floor of the House.
