LACC Continues Nationwide Anti-Corruption Awareness Campaign in Grand Bassa
The Commissioner with oversight on Enforcement at the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has made a call on Liberians to get on board and join the fight against corruption.
Cllr. David A. B. Wilson says all Liberiañs have a stake in corruption related matters as it affects everyone especially in the rural areas.
He listed poor health care services, bad road conditions, poor education facilities as well as the absence of basic social services such as electricity, pipe born water and security as some of outcomes if corruption is not tackled.
Comm. Wilson was speaking in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County in continuation of the Nationwide Anti-Corruption Awareness Campaign which was launched on Thursday, November 17.
The Commissioner reminded participants that corruption attacks the foundation of democratic institutions by distorting electoral processes, perverting the rule of law and creating bureaucratic perplexities whose only reason for existing is the soliciting of bribes.
Cllr. Wilson encouraged the participants to report corruption wherever they see it, noting, that it is "an honorable civil duty to the country".
He assured the participants that their identity will be kept confidential as the Whistleblower Act and the Witness Protection laws are available to protect anyone who reports any act of corruption.
In separate remarks, the participants thanked the LACC for creating the awareness and requested that similar program be held around the county.
The participants came from local government, schools, civil society, the local judiciary, county health and education sectors as well as the local law enforcement, marketing Association and religious community.
Grand Bassa County is the fourth county in which the Nationwide Anti-Corruption Awareness Campaign has been launched.
The Campaign has already been launched in Bong, Margibi, and Nimba Counties.
