As We Celebrated International Anti-Corruption Day, One of the Major Highlights of the Ceremony was a Youth Debate Held Yesterday, December 9, 2025
The debate featured United Dawah Ummah High School and the College of West Africa, discussing the motion: “This House believes that empowering young people to lead the fight against corruption is the most effective way of mitigating corruption risks.”
United Dawah Ummah, speaking for the proposition, emphasized that genuine empowerment requires giving young people a seat at the decision-making table, reinforced by skills training, job opportunities, and strong moral values to nurture responsible leadership.
The College of West Africa, opposing the motion, argued that empowerment must be paired with tangible action. They highlighted the challenge of congested court dockets, which slow down justice, and advocated for the creation of a specialized anti-corruption court to strengthen prosecutions and enhance the LACC’s effectiveness. According to them, only when justice is swift and credible can the fight against corruption truly advance.
Although the College of West Africa emerged as the winner of the debate, the constructive exchange reflected the spirit of this year’s national theme: “Uniting youth against corruption, instilling integrity in our future leaders for a Peaceful, Inclusive and Prosperous Liberia.”
The insights shared by both schools confirm the LACC’s commitment to elevating young voices and placing them at the center of Liberia’s integrity agenda. Their passion and clarity show that the next generation not only understands how to confront corruption, but also why character must always lead the way.
When young minds choose integrity early, the future chooses accountability.
