The International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) has donated stationery and office supplies to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) to support its operational effectiveness. The donation was made by INL Director, Madam Sally Schlegel, and U.S. Ambassador to Liberia, His Excellency Ambassador Mark Toner, during a ceremony at the LACC headquarters on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
In his remarks, Ambassador Toner emphasized the critical role of fighting corruption in Liberia’s development. He reaffirmed the U.S. government’s commitment to partnering with Liberia in its fight against corruption and drug-related crimes. The Ambassador also expressed deep appreciation for the sacrifices and contributions of the LACC Commissioners and staff, acknowledging their unwavering dedication to combating corruption. “Your efforts and sacrifices are vital to the advancement of transparency and accountability in Liberia, and the American government will remain a steadfast partner in this noble cause,” he said.
Madam Sally Schlegel, INL Director, highlighted the close collaboration between the INL and the LACC, noting that two LACC commissioners recently received specialized training in Mexico. She encouraged the sharing of knowledge among colleagues, stating, “While we cannot train everyone, those who have the opportunity should pass the knowledge to others.”
In response, Cllr. Alexandra K. Zoe, Executive Chairperson of the LACC, expressed gratitude to the U.S. Ambassador and the INL Director for their continued support. She emphasized that the supplies are vital to the Commission’s daily operations, especially as the LACC strengthens mechanisms for transparency, accountability, and good governance. “These supplies are essential tools that will enable our staff to perform their duties more effectively,” Cllr. Zoe stated.
She added, “Your visit and recognition of our work inspires and motivates my team. It provides further impetus for us to intensify our fight against corruption.” Cllr. Zoe also reaffirmed the LACC’s commitment to collaborating with the U.S. Embassy and expressed hope for further program funding support from USAID to bolster investigations, prosecutions, public education, and international cooperation.
