LACC Ends First Phase of Nationwide Awareness
Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, and Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County— The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has successfully concluded the inaugural phase of its Nationwide Anti-Corruption Campaign in Buchanan, Grand Bassa and Zwedru, Grand Gedeh Counties respectively.
During these events, a diverse representation of citizens voiced their concerns on the necessity of decentralizing the LACC to enhance its efficiency in combating corruption. Concerns were raised regarding the detrimental effects of corruption on the marginalized salaries of many citizens, particularly those in the security sector.
Furthermore, citizens commended the LACC for its proactive initiative and urged the entity to persist in engaging and interacting with the public.
In both Buchanan and Zwedru, the LACC facilitated interactive discussions with participants, shedding light on the valuable benefits of the Whistleblower Act, the Witness Protection Act, and the Amended LACC Act of 2022. These discussions underscored the pivotal role of such legislation in fostering a culture where citizens feel empowered to report corrupt practices without fear of reprisal.
The awareness campaign also extended to extensive street engagements with diverse community members, including marketers, pen-pen riders, motorcyclists, and intellectuals, among others, to amplify awareness about the fight against corruption.
Under the theme “Strengthening the Rule of Law through Public Awareness on Anti-Corruption,” the Nationwide Anti-Corruption Awareness campaign launched its first phase in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, on Saturday, May 18, 2024. Subsequently, the campaign teams travelled to Ganta and Saniquelle in Nimba County before culminating in Buchanan and Zwedru.
