December 6, 2018: Liberia will join the rest of the world in celebrating International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) on December 9, 2018. The day was designated as International Anti-Corruption Day by the General Assembly of the United Nations when it adopted the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) on October 31, 2003.
The celebration of the International Anti-Corruption Day is aimed at raising awareness and serves as an opportunity for all organizations and individuals worldwide to create awareness about corruption and to promote anti-corruption activities. The theme for the 2018 International Anti-Corruption Day Celebration is “Say No to Corruption, Every No Counts” and slogan, “United Against Corruption”.
In commemoration of the day, the Liberia Anti-corruption Commission (LACC) organizes series of activities that will be held from December 7-10, 2018 in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
On December 7, a Round Table discussion with stakeholders will be held, a two day Religious engagements with the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA), New Testament Baptist Church, E.K. Miller Memorial Church, Open Bible Church, St. Peter Claver Catholic Church and St. John Episcopal Church and the celebration will climax on December 10, with a parade through the streets of Buchanan City and an indoor program at the City Hall, Fair Ground.
The President of the Republic Liberia, His Excellency, George M. Weah will serve as keynote speaker, the special Anti-corruption Day message will be read by the Executive Chairperson of the LACC, Cllr. James N. Verdier, Jr., statement from the United Nations Secretary General will be read by student Jennifer Clinton of the St. Peter Claver Catholic School and Proclamation will be done by Student Naomi M. Piah of the Bassa High School.
